The short version
We only collect what Reward Jar needs to work: your account details, the jars you set up and the marbles added to them. We don't sell it, we don't use it for advertising, and you can delete your account and its data at any time from the app or the website. If you allow advertising cookies on our website, Meta also learns about your visit, as Analytics and cookies explains.
Who we are
Reward Jar, the iPhone app and therewardjar.com are run by Zebby Digital Ltd, the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at hello@therewardjar.com.
What we collect
- Waitlist: your email address if you join the waitlist, and which campaign sent you if the link says so.
- Quizzes: if you take one of our quizzes, your answers, how far you got, which of its buttons you tapped, whether you're on an iPhone, an Android phone or something else, and which campaign sent you. It isn't linked to you: we don't save your name, email address or IP address, and the child's name you can type in stays on your phone.
- Your account: your name, email address and password (stored scrambled, so we can't read it).
- Your jars: what you enter for each jar: your child's first name, their marble colour, the rewards you set, each marble added (when, and whether it came from the jar, the app or the website) and any notes you add.
- Sharing: the email addresses of grown-ups you invite to share a jar.
- The jar itself: its hardware ID, firmware version and when it last connected. Your Wi-Fi password is sent from your phone straight to the jar over Bluetooth and stays on the jar. We never receive it.
Children don't use the app or the website. The jar doesn't collect anything about your child: it only knows when its lid is pressed.
Why we use it
Account and jar details are used to run Reward Jar for you: showing your jars, keeping the app, the website and the jar in step, and sending account emails such as verification, password resets and invitations. We count quiz answers to see which questions and adverts work, and what parents think about rewards. If you allow advertising cookies, the Meta Pixel helps us see which of our adverts work. We use your waitlist email, with your consent, to tell you when the jar is ready and to send the occasional Reward Jar news. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted services that only process data on our behalf:
- Our hosting provider, which runs the website, the API and the database.
- Bento, which stores the waitlist and sends our emails.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they use legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to protect it. When you share a jar, the grown-ups you share it with can see its history, notes and the names and email addresses of the others sharing it.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, jars only you share are deleted along with their history, and any Reward Jar connected to them is disconnected. Jars you share with other grown-ups stay with them. Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
Analytics and cookies
The website uses Fathom Analytics to count visits. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't collect personal data. The iPhone app has no analytics or tracking.
The website only sets cookies that are strictly necessary, such as the one that keeps you signed in and the one that protects forms from being misused.
The one exception is the Meta Pixel. Our website and quiz pages ask first, and only load it if you accept. It sets cookies and tells Meta which of our pages you visit, whether you came from one of our adverts, and the main things you do there: playing the video tour, tapping through to the App Store or to sign up, and how far through a quiz you got. It never receives your quiz answers or anything from your account. We use it to see which adverts work and to show them to people likely to find them useful. Meta may link this to your Facebook or Instagram account, as Meta's privacy policy explains, and we share responsibility with Meta for collecting it. You can change your mind at any time with "Cookie choices" at the bottom of the page.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to see, correct or delete the data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. You can delete your account yourself in the app (Settings) or on the website (Settings, then Delete account), or email hello@therewardjar.com and we'll respond within a month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
We'll update this page when what we collect changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
